The Milwaukee Brewers had just won their first World Series, a parade had wound through downtown, and the person who stole the closing act was the hitting coach. Daniel Vogelbach climbed onto the stage at Friday’s rally with a Miller Lite and sang “Stacy’s Mom,” the 2003 Fountains of Wayne hit.
His voice was far from perfect. That was half the charm. Pitcher Aaron Ashby cheered him on, and the crowd, part of an expected 400,000, did the rest. It was not a spur-of-the-moment stunt either: according to reports, Vogelbach had promised to sing the song if the team clinched.
A day built for the unexpected
The Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday to take the Series in five games. They had last reached the Fall Classic 44 years ago, losing in seven to the Cardinals in 1982. Team captain Christian Yelich told the rally, “We’ve had way too many parade beers. I took the trophy to the face, got a black eye. It’s all worth it.”
Hall of Famer Robin Yount rolled onto the stage on a Harley-Davidson that belonged to broadcaster Bob Uecker, who died in January 2025. Milwaukee Public Schools had canceled classes. Manager Pat Murphy said he kept thinking the crowd was the same people over and over: “There’s no way there’s that many people who live here.”
The coach behind the plan
Vogelbach is 33. He played in the majors from 2016 to 2024 for the Mariners, Blue Jays, Brewers, Pirates and Mets, and made the 2019 All-Star team in Seattle after hitting 30 home runs. The Brewers hired him as a hitting coach on January 5, 2026, alongside Guillermo Martinez. He now has a championship ring.
His job is to sharpen what Murphy already preached. Andrew Vaughn put it plainly: “What we do here is we swing at strikes, and we take balls.” Vogelbach, Vaughn said, helps hitters understand pitchers and builds a set plan. The numbers back the approach. Milwaukee’s 43.5 swing rate was easily the lowest in the majors this season.
As for a music career, nothing says there is one. No release, no project, only a coach, a microphone and a city that wanted a soundtrack.
