LOS ANGELES, November 6, 2026 — Weezer will receive the Legends of Live Award at the Billboard Live Music Summit on November 10, joining past recipients Usher and John Mayer. The band will sit down with Billboard co-chief content officer Jason Lipshutz to discuss a touring career that spans more than three decades.
The Figure That Matters
32 cities. That is the scope of the Gathering World Tour currently rolling through North American arenas. The run demonstrates an enduring draw that few alternative rock acts from the 1990s can match. On October 18, the band played Austin’s Moody Center with The Shins and Silversun Pickups as openers, a bill that packed three distinct eras of alternative history into a single Sunday night.
By the Numbers
10 million albums sold in the United States. Over 35 million worldwide. The classic lineup — Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner — has been stable since 2001, a rarity in a genre defined by volatility. The Blue Album arrived May 10, 1994, and generated three defining alternative hits: “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Buddy Holly,” and “Say It Ain’t So.” The band toured 150 shows in 1994 and 1995 to support it.
The Bottom Line
Weezer formed in Los Angeles in 1992. They survived a commercial flop with Pinkerton, a hiatus, and multiple lineup changes before the current quartet locked in. Since then, they have released albums at a steady clip — 20 total as of 2026 — spanning orchestral pop, hard rock, and seasonal EPs. The multigenerational fanbase Billboard cites is visible at shows where parents who bought the Blue Album on CD bring teenagers who discovered “Island in the Sun” on streaming.
What Comes Next
The summit luncheon, sponsored by AEG Presents, convenes artists, executives, and industry leaders on November 10 in Los Angeles. Weezer’s conversation with Lipshutz is the headline session.
