Model Influencer and Passenger Die in New Jersey Freeway Crash

Deptford Township, New Jersey — July 8 — A late-night crash on a southern New Jersey freeway has left two young women dead and a third passenger injured, according to New Jersey State Police. The single-vehicle accident occurred Sunday night when a BMW driven by 22-year-old Ayzia J.

Toledo lost directional control on a freeway in Deptford Township, Gloucester County, a community roughly 12 miles south of Philadelphia. The car ran off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a tree. Toledo, a Philadelphia-area resident known online as a social media influencer and model, sustained fatal injuries in the wreck.

Her front-seat passenger, 22-year-old Henrietta F. Carter of Darby, Pennsylvania — a Philadelphia suburb — also died.

A third occupant seated in the rear of the BMW suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The crash occurred on a major freeway that forms part of the transportation network linking southern New Jersey with the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Victims Identified

The driver, Ayzia J. Toledo, had built a following on social media under the handle “AYZIA J.,” where she posted modeling and lifestyle content that established her as a recognizable figure in the Philadelphia-area digital space. At 22 years old, she had cultivated an audience on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, showcasing curated aspects of her life, style, and professional modeling work.

The front-seat passenger, Henrietta F. Carter, also 22, lived in Darby, Pennsylvania, a borough just southwest of Philadelphia.

The rear-seat passenger, whose identity has not been released by authorities, escaped with minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. New Jersey State Police have confirmed that both Toledo and Carter died as a result of the crash. The vehicle involved was a BMW, and the incident occurred on a freeway in Deptford Township.

The investigation remains active, with state police handling the probe into the circumstances that led to the loss of control and subsequent impact with a tree.

Investigation Underway

New Jersey State Police are leading the inquiry into the fatal accident. Investigators are examining the scene on the freeway in Gloucester County, a roadway that serves as a key artery for commuters and travelers moving between southern New Jersey and the greater Philadelphia region.

The exact cause of the loss of directional control has not yet been determined. The rear-seat passenger was transported to a medical facility, and authorities have not released additional details about that individual’s condition. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been made public by law enforcement at this time. The freeway in Deptford Township is part of a larger network that connects the area to Interstate 295 and other routes that serve the densely populated Philadelphia suburbs.

The crash late Sunday night disrupted traffic in the area as emergency crews responded to the scene.

Influencer Tragedy in Broader Context

The death of Ayzia J. Toledo, a young social media influencer, parallels previous high-profile tragedies involving online personalities. In 2021, the disappearance and killing of Gabriella “Gabby” Petito — a travel blogger and vlogger who vanished during a cross-country road trip with her fiancé and whose remains were later found in Wyoming — drew national attention to the risks faced by influencers who document their lives in real time. Petito’s case amplified public awareness of the dangers that can accompany the lifestyle of content creators who share curated journeys on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. A social media influencer is generally defined as an individual who builds a sizable audience on such platforms, often by sharing carefully produced aspects of their daily life, fashion, travel, or expertise. Many earn income through brand partnerships, sponsored posts, and advertising revenue. The profession has expanded rapidly over the past decade, attracting young people drawn to the promise of fame, creative expression, and financial independence. However, the same visibility that generates followers can also invite intense public scrutiny and, in some cases, personal risk
