Here Are the Family-Friendly Movies & TV Shows Coming in 2026

NEW YORK, September 13 — The family-entertainment calendar for the rest of the year is already set, and one date stands out for anyone who grew up with a talking cowboy and a space ranger. Toy Story 5 arrives in theatres on June 19, with a Disney+ date of September 25, according to a family release calendar published by Billboard on June 2 and compiled by Denise Warner for the outlet’s Billboard Family vertical.

The calendar, which Billboard says will be updated throughout the year, rounds up the movies and television series aimed at children and families arriving across theatres and streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, Disney Jr., Apple TV, Peacock and PBS Kids. It is a practical document as much as a promotional one, and it comes with a piece of advice for parents who are unsure whether a title is right for their household: watch the trailer or an episode yourself before showing it to your children.

A theatrical slate built on sequels

Toy Story 5 sits inside a theatrical season heavy on returning names. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie carries a PG rating and an April 1 release. The Mandalorian and Grogu is rated PG-13 and opens May 22.

Minions & Monsters follows on July 1, with The Angry Birds Movie 3 and Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie, the latter dated August 14, also on the list. Older properties get new treatments too.

The Cat and the Hat and a live-action remake of Disney’s Moana, dated July 10, are both on the calendar, alongside the feature-length Paw Patrol entry. Among the original films are the sports comedy GOAT, rated PG and dated February 13, the science-fiction animal tale Hoppers, also PG and dated March 6, and Forgotten Island, dated September 25 and described as the story of two friends caught in a magical world.

Other theatrical titles with dates include Charlie the Wonderdog, rated PG and dated January 16; The Pout-Pout Fish, PG, March 20; The Magic Faraway Tree, August 21; Coyote vs. Acme, PG, August 28; and Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, September 18.

What else is coming to streaming and television

Streaming and television carry their own weight in the roundup. Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish and Pokemon Horizons: Season 3: Rising Hope both arrive on Netflix on January 1. The series premiere of Hey A.J.! lands on Disney Jr. and Disney+ on January 13, with new episodes following on April 8.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie makes its streaming debut on Peacock on January 23. Disney Jr.’s Ariel – The Little Mermaid returns for a second season with dates of January 28 and June 1.

Yo Gabba GabbaLand! comes to Apple TV on January 30, and the new PBS Kids show Phoebe & Jay premieres February 2. RoboGobo returns for a second season on February 16, while Gabby’s Dollhouse season 13 arrives on Netflix on March 2. New Sesame Street episodes land on Netflix on March 9, with Sesame Street: Volume 3 following on June 8.

April brings LEGO Ninjago Dragons Rising season 4 and The Bad Guys: The Series season 2, both on Netflix on April 2, and IF on Netflix on April 9. LEGO Friends The Next Chapter season 4 and A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough both arrive on Netflix on April 17.

CoComelon Lane season 7 follows on Netflix on April 20, with the Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 series premiere on April 23 and My Sesame Street Friends: My Abby on April 27. Swapped comes to Netflix on May 1, and Sofia the First: Royal Magic arrives on Disney Jr. and Disney+ on May 25. Little Angel: Volume 8 lands on Netflix on June 27.

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland arrives on the Disney Channel on July 16, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+: Mickey’s Country Farm comes to Disney Jr. on July 30. Barbie in Nutcracker reaches Netflix on September 8, with LEGO ONE PIECE following on September 29. One Netflix addition on April 1 brings Hotel Transylvania 2, Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Penguins of Madagascar: The Movie to the service.

MPAA ratings are noted where available, and the source list ends partway through November 2026. For families planning the months ahead, the near-term markers are Charlie the Wonderdog in January and the streaming arrivals that open the year, while Toy Story 5 remains the fixed point in the middle of it — in theatres June 19, and on Disney+ from September 25.
