Candlelight Processional

LAKE BUENA VISTA, October 8 — Walt Disney World has announced changes to the celebrity narrator lineup for the 2026 Candlelight Processional, removing one celebrity and adding two newcomers. The story begins with a shift in tradition as the resort revealed the updated roster earlier than in previous years, though gaps remain in the schedule. At its heart, the announcement reflects both progress and uncertainty for fans of the long-running holiday spectacle.

What unfolded is a careful balance: the 2026 edition will feature only one or two ‘to be announced’ spots among the narrator positions, a tighter range than in past iterations. This approach marks a departure from recent years when more TBA slots were common, signaling an effort to solidify plans ahead of the event’s run.

For those involved in planning, the early release offers a chance to build anticipation, even as final details are still pending. The annual Christmas-time special event, held during EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays, will run from Friday, November 27 until December 30, 2026. Showtimes are set at 4:45 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. each day at the America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase.

This scheduling continues a long-standing pattern of evening performances designed to accommodate holiday visitors. The good news is that Walt Disney World has released the lineup even earlier than last year, which came almost a full month before the previous two years when the lineup was released in October.

This is still late by historical standards from 2019, but the circumstances were different. The earlier announcement allows guests more time to plan visits around specific narrators, a factor that has influenced attendance in prior seasons. The bad news is that there’s still one ‘to be announced’ gap in this year’s schedule.

Despite the progress in filling most narrator roles, this remaining uncertainty leaves room for speculation about who might complete the roster. Organizers have not indicated when the final name or names will be revealed. The Candlelight Processional is an annual live Christmas event held in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California and Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida.

Through a live orchestra, choir, and narration, the show retells the nativity of Jesus Christ and the story of “the first Christmas”. Created by Walt Disney and begun in 1958, it has become an annual holiday tradition for both resorts.

The processional is currently performed for only two nights in December at Disneyland, and throughout the entire month of December at Epcot. This difference in duration reflects the distinct operational scales and holiday programming strategies of the two parks, with Epcot’s longer run tied to its Festival of the Holidays celebration. For the first holiday season at Disneyland in 1955, Walt Disney and Disneyland entertainment director Tommy Walker enlisted the help of Dr. Charles C.

Hirt, director of choral music at the USC Thornton School of Music, to hire and train a group of traditional Christmas carolers for atmosphere entertainment. Guest choirs and performing groups were also brought in to play at a small bandstand near Sleeping Beauty Castle, which was renamed the Christmas Bowl.

On the opening day of the park’s Christmas festivities in 1955, the carolers, guest choirs, and school bands scheduled to perform that day formed a 300-person mass choir on the steps of the Main Street Station. The mass choir returned the following year, this time accompanied by the Disneyland Band. In 1957, the guest choirs formed a procession for the first time and followed the Christmas Around the World Parade from the castle to the Central Plaza (or Hub).

The carolers and choirs were a hit with guests.
