GLASGOW, September 25 — The last time Chvrches put out new music, the world was a different place. On Wednesday, the Scottish pop trio ended that silence, announcing a new label home and releasing “Roses,” their first single in three years. The band has signed with Futures Music Group, the independent label collective founded in 2024 by Derek Davies of Neon Gold and Dave Wallace of Avenue A.
Variety reported the signing and the single in its Music Industry Moves column on September 24, written by Jem Aswad, the outlet’s executive editor of music.
A different kind of label deal
Futures Music Group operates separately from Neon Gold and Avenue A, and pitches itself on terms that break from the traditional label model. The collective describes its approach as offering “transparent deal structures [and] integrated technology partnerships,” with deals designed to align incentives with artists — prioritizing long-term partnership and participation over traditional ownership models. Its roster already includes Lykke Li, Mt.
Joy, Cavetown, Phantogram and the Knocks, among others. Chvrches now join that list.
The signing lands after a solo chapter for the band’s frontwoman. Singer Lauren Mayberry released a solo album on Island last year, and “Roses” marks the group’s return to recording together.
Two nights back home
The release comes with live dates attached. Chvrches will play two shows in the U.K. next month, in London and in their hometown of Glasgow — the city where the trio built its following before breaking through internationally. The same Variety column carried other industry news.
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. named Josephine Vaccarello as its president. In the elevated role, she will oversee strategy and operations across multiple areas of the business, including all entertainment bookings, non-New York Knicks and New York Rangers sports bookings, and the productions business, which includes the Radio City Rockettes and the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes.
Vaccarello will continue to oversee booking live concert residencies and touring acts at Sphere, which is owned by Sphere Entertainment Co. and is part of the MSG Family of Companies. She was most recently the company’s EVP of live. Jim Dolan, executive chairman and chief executive officer of MSG Entertainment and Sphere Entertainment, said in a statement: “Over her nearly thirty-year career with MSG, Josephine has not only been instrumental in growing our live event business but also established herself as one of the industry’s most impactful and respected leaders.
Her deep understanding of our businesses and unparalleled industry relationships will continue to be an asset in this new role as we execute on our strategic vision for the Company, including identifying innovative growth opportunities and furthering our leadership position in live experiences.” The column also noted that Primary Wave Music has struck a deal, though details were not provided. It additionally linked to a separate report on Warner Music Group naming Val Blavatnik managing director of North America and the U.K. amid other executive moves.
For Chvrches, the next test comes onstage. Watch whether the London and Glasgow shows fill out a wider touring schedule behind “Roses” — and whether the Futures model, built on partnership rather than ownership, draws more established acts to its roster.
