Fandango and Lionsgate offer all five Hunger Games movies free on streaming for first time

Hunger Games Films Go Free on Fandango App

All five films in the Hunger Games franchise are being offered for free — ad-supported — for on-demand streaming together for the first time. Fandango and Lionsgate announced the films will be on Fandango’s free streaming app starting Friday through Oct. 31.

Promotion Aims to Boost New Film Ticket Sales

The idea is to drive interest and ticket sales to the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, released in theaters Nov. 20. The lineup includes The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1, Mockingjay – Part 2, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Franchise Box Office and Streaming Details

The franchise has collectively grossed $3.3 billion at the global box office. The films will be presented with ‘limited commercials’ as assured by Fandango. Will McIntosh, president of digital platforms & ventures at Versant, commented on the partnership’s goals.

New Film Focuses on Haymitch Abernathy

The new film centers on Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Joseph Zada, 24 years before the original Hunger Games. The story follows Haymitch into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow. As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena — setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.

Streaming Format and Technical Details

The films will be available exclusively on Fandango’s free, ad-supported streaming app, accessible via mobile devices, smart TVs, and web browsers. Fandango confirmed the presentation will include “limited commercials” to maintain a viewing experience close to traditional streaming while supporting the free access model. This marks the first time all five Hunger Games titles have been bundled together for free on-demand streaming through a single platform.

The promotion runs from Friday, October 18, through October 31, 2026, aligning with the theatrical release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping on November 20. During this window, users can stream any or all of the five films without subscription or rental fees, though ad interruptions will occur as part of the free tier structure.

Fandango’s app, which already offers a mix of free and premium content, is positioning this limited-time offering as a way to re-engage fans with the franchise’s full narrative arc. The technical delivery ensures compatibility across major streaming devices, though specific platform requirements beyond general app availability were not detailed in the announcement.

Partnership Between Fandango and Lionsgate

Fandango and Lionsgate have partnered to offer all five Hunger Games films for free, ad-supported streaming on Fandango’s app for the first time. The collaboration aims to re-engage fans with the franchise’s full narrative arc ahead of the theatrical release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping on November 20, 2026. As stated by Will McIntosh, president of digital platforms & ventures at Versant, the partnership demonstrates how Fandango can help studios engage audiences across the full entertainment journey.

The promotion runs from October 18 through October 31, 2026, and includes limited commercials to support the free access model. This marks the first time the complete Hunger Games franchise has been bundled together for free on-demand streaming via a single platform. Lionsgate, as the film’s distributor, is working with Fandango to drive interest and ticket sales for the new release.
